What’s the Difference Between Essential Oil Brands?
Therapeutic Properties
Firstly, if you think about the therapeutic, healing properties of a plant oil, so many factors can impact the chemical composition of that oil. For example, orange essential oil; the ripeness of the fruit, the time of day it’s picked, the sprays that are used on the farm, how its pressed, the temperature it’s stored at, there are literally HUNDREDS of factors that can impact the chemical makeup of that one oil!
This in turn affects the therapeutic quality of that little bottle and whether it is effective in what you are using it for.
This is why every bottle of Young Living essential oil is tested 90 times before it arrives at your door! No other company takes such an impressive approach to quality control.
Misleading Marketing
So many brands use clever marketing to sell their oils. Saying 100% ‘PURE’ essential oil on the bottle does not mean that it is actually 100% lavender essential oil for example. There are no regulations around this and it has been found that some brands have as little as 5% ACTUAL essential oil in the bottle, the rest? Could be anything whipped up in a factory in China!

Organic Standards
When it comes to using products in my home and garden, choosing organic over commercial is a no brainer. Interestingly, Young Living found the USDA organic standard too relaxed and therefore created their own organic standard to rate their oils against: their Seed to Seal promise.
As you can see in this table, their level of testing is incredibly strict in order to maintain the quality and efficacy of their essential oils.
Because of this, they are also one of the few brands whose oils are safe to ingest!
Ethically Sourced
All of Young Living oils are sourced from their corporate-owned farms, partner farms, and Seed to Seal-certified suppliers. This enables them to source conscientiously and with sensitivity to local communities and ecosystems.
Young Living actually owns the majority of their farms and unlike other brands, they’re open to the public to go and visit. One of the many ways in which they are transparent with their customers.
