    Hi Isla,

Katya here. I see you are a skilled pepper grower! I grew my first batch of Bishops Hat this year and am a bit stuck after harvesting now. If I prune the bush, will it snap back next year in spring or is it an annual that has to be grown from a seed again?

Hi, all! I’m Katya, and I’m gardening from my backyard in South Africa

Favourite Veggie to Grow: My absolute favourite veggie to grow has to be tomatoes! They’re so versatile and can be used in just about anything. I love that I can make sauces and salsas with them, and if I’m lucky enough to have a big harvest, I can freeze the sauces to use in the off-season. Plus, there are so many different varieties, from juicy heirlooms to sweet cherry tomatoes.

Top Tip: My go-to gardening hack is companion planting. It’s such a natural way to keep pests under control without resorting to chemicals. For example, I love planting basil near my tomatoes; not only does it enhance their flavour, but it also keeps pesky bugs at bay. And marigolds are my secret weapon—they’re like little bodyguards for the whole garden! By planting the right combinations, you can create a harmonious garden where everything thrives together.

The Veggie I’m Determined to Master: The one veggie I haven’t quite mastered yet is eggplant. No matter what I do, the plants struggle to yield fruit. Last year, I tried everything — different soils, watering schedules, even talking to the plants for encouragement — but nothing seemed to work. Despite that, I’m not giving up! I’m determined to conquer eggplants one day and enjoy a homegrown ratatouille from my garden.

Maybe someone could give me some tips?
