My love for gardening aroused when I was a kid, and I would help my father, who is a professional gardener. To me, gardening is a real comfort and natural therapy in stressful conditions. Believe me, it truly works, guys!
But after my wedding and getting a job, I rarely got enough time to do gardening. And at the same time (being a health-conscious wife), I was sick of pesticide-leached veggies. So, on a Sunday evening, I was reading a newspaper with a column on home gardens. That’s what inspired me to grow a vegetable garden in my small backyard.
It’s been around two months, so I’d say I am still a beginner and learning a lot. As of now, I have tomatoes, lady finger, spring onions, mint, coriander, and green chili in my garden. It’s summertime in India, and these veggies thrive in this weather. I love it! It’s the best pastime and therapy for me.
The best part is that I am using organic, homemade fertilizers with no chemicals or pesticides.
In the beginning, it was like a trial and error-process. I sometimes felt bad when my plants would die immaturely and suddenly. At that time, I started visiting a local nursery and contacted a gardener who grows vegetables in people’s gardens. Also, I got help from the vlogs of Indian gardeners and vegetable growers who know the soil and weather conditions better.
I’d say it all starts with the best-quality seeds, regular and proper care, and keep learning. Over time, I also came to know that overwatering can rot the roots, so your plants may die early.
Today, after around two months of consistent efforts, I’m able to pluck some juicy and organic veggies from my own kitchen garden.
Now, I have many more veggies growing in my home garden, including bottle gourd, bitter gourd, okra, pumpkin, brinjal, capsicum, spinach, and fenugreek leaves. Now, I cook with fresh, pesticide-free veggies that keep my family’s healthy!
