Hi, I’m Elle Reed

The green-fingered veggie gardener behind The Potager Project. I’m not your typical gardener – I’m here to show you how to start a vegetable garden and that anyone can grow their own food, no matter their age, experience, or space.

Whether you’re a suburban mum with a small backyard or a young professional with just a balcony or windowsill to work with, this blog is for you!

Learning to Grow Vegetables Indoors in an Apartment

I grew up gardening alongside my dad, learning the joys of growing our own food from a young age. When I was older I moved to London and lived the corporate lifestyle, living in a small apartment with only a tiny balcony. Despite these limitations of time and space, I decided to try growing vegetables indoors in my apartment.

With a Smart Garden, a Bokashi Bin and a few container gardens on my balcony, I was soon harvesting fresh food in the middle of London!

Transitioning to Urban Vegetable Gardening

When I moved back home and became a mum, I entered a new stage of life – the suburban gardener.

Determined to still grow my own food for my family, I embraced the challenge of my small backyard. I decided to grow a potager garden (yes, this is where the idea for The Potager Project started), and I loved that my kids could grow up learning about plants and cultivating their own food.

If nothing else, I hope that you take from my story that no matter the size of your space, we can all start somewhere when it comes to growing our own fresh food.
